Launch of the Financial Literacy Challenge
Mombasa, 21st May 2022
Junior Achievement Kenya in partnership with The Teachers Service Commission, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Mombasa County Government Department of Education & ICT, and Prudence Foundation officially launched the 2022 Financial Literacy Challenge; Cha Ching Program. This Program was scheduled for 21st May 2022 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at Khadija Primary School.
Financial Literacy Challenge is the culminating event of the Cha-Ching Program which brings together involved pupils to showcase their knowledge and skills gained through the program.
The launch of the Program in Mombasa gave an opportunity to students in the Coastal region to get hands-on experience on how to use and handle their money better. The main objective of the event was to create awareness of the Program in the schools and psyche up the pupils for the Challenge with the amazing rewards. In addition, to encourage financial literacy amongst children through the Cha-ching program.
Patrons from twenty-plus primary schools were present and went through training in the Cha-ching Financial Literacy Program. Detailed discussions were done in groups and the Prudence Foundation representatives took them through topics in regard to the program. The training opened up the minds of the teachers to understand more.
Mr.John Msusuva, the guest speaker, from the Mombasa county government highlighted the importance of financial programs in the curriculum for the pupils. Prudence Foundation, Ms.Stella Wathani, spoke on the need for teaching pupils money matters at a young age and presented the students from Guru Nanak Primary School with Cha-ching Membership cards that got them excited about this year’s cycle.
We officially launched the Financial Literacy Challenge by marking our dates for 16th July 2022 for the Contest.
